The Reunion
Arianna is coming to Charlotte!!
Arianna is flying in from California this weekend and I am SO FREAKING EXCITED!! I cannot wait another second. It has been way too long, and this weekend is going to be an absolute blast — nonstop laughing, late nights, outdoor adventures, and catching up on everything we've missed. The fact that it's her first time in North Carolina makes it even more special. Somebody come check on me because I am NOT okay right now — I'm just over here buzzing!! LET'S GOOO!!

Almost three years. It's time. 💚

Arianna arrives Saturday afternoon and leaves Tuesday afternoon. Three full activity windows and two evenings. Saturday night is the city vibe, Sunday is a full boat day on Lake Norman with the crew, Monday is a waterfall hike in the mountains, and Tuesday wraps up with a chill brunch before she heads to the airport.

Best energy night, no wasted daylight. An instant 'welcome to the South' moment with skyline dinner and rooftop cocktails.
4:00 PM
Arianna Arrives
Pick up Arianna, head home to Lake Norman area, drop bags, freshen up. Drive to Uptown Charlotte (~30 min from Mooresville) around 5:30.
6:00 – 7:30 PM
Rooster's Wood-Fired Kitchen
Wood-fired pizzas, seasonal plates, craft cocktails. Warm and buzzy without being pretentious. A great first-night spot.
Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel, 303 S Church St · Reserve ahead

Also Consider
·Angeline's — Upscale pizza and Italian small plates
·Sea Level NC — Raw bar and coastal seafood. Distinctly Southern coastal.
·Church & Union — Southern-meets-modern, beautiful interior, strong cocktails
7:30 – 8:15 PM
Romare Bearden Park
Short stroll from dinner. The skyline views at dusk are the best photo op in Charlotte. Beautifully lit after dark.

8:15 – 9:30 PM
Merchant & Trade
Rooftop lounge overlooking Romare Bearden Park with panoramic skyline views. Craft cocktails, open-air seating. This is the spot that makes Uptown Charlotte click for visitors.
Atop Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel

Also Consider
·Aura Rooftop — JW Marriott. Sleeker, more upscale. Botanical cocktails.
9:30+ PM
Optional: Extend the Night
Sophia's Lounge (The Ivey's Hotel) for elegant cocktails, or Dandelion Market for a globally-inspired food hall vibe with DJ upstairs on weekends.
Pro Tip
Saturday night parking: use 7th Street Station garage or the Kimpton garage. Or Uber from Mooresville (~$30-40 each way) if you want to drink freely.
Day 2 · Sunday
Lake Norman Boat Day
The social day. Launch from Hager Creek, cruise the main channel, dock for lunch, find a cove for the afternoon, and close with a sunset cruise. This is what living near Lake Norman actually feels like.
8:30 – 9:00 AM
Launch from Hager Creek
Load the boat, cooler, sunscreen, towels, Bluetooth speaker. Arrive early to grab a good ramp slot. By 10 AM it gets congested.
9:15 – 10:30 AM
Morning Cruise North
Head north through the main channel toward the NC-150 bridge. Morning light on the water is beautiful. The lake is 34 miles long with 520 miles of shoreline. For a Californian, this freshwater lake surrounded by green forest feels like a different world.

10:30 – 11:30 AM
Explore the Coves
Tuck into a quiet cove between Hager Creek and the 150 bridge. Kill the engine, float, swim if the water's warm enough (65-70°F in late April). This is the 'detox from California pace' moment.
11:30 AM – 1:00 PM
Lunch at Blue Parrot Grill
Dock-accessible, just north of the 150 bridge. Outdoor deck right on the water, casual vibe, fish tacos, cold beer. The classic Lake Norman boat-up lunch spot.
169 Pinnacle Lane, Mooresville

Also Consider
·Toucan's Lakefront — Two-story deck, broadest lake views, seafood and steaks
·Eddie's on the Lake — Best raw bar on the lake. Lobster mac & cheese.
1:00 – 4:30 PM
Afternoon on the Water
Cruise south past Hager Creek toward Cornelius/Davidson. Find a south-facing cove with afternoon sun. Float, swim, hang out. Don't over-schedule this part. With a group, this is the peak hang.
7:00 – 8:05 PM
Sunset Cruise
The grand finale. Cruise the main channel facing west-southwest. Sunset at 8:05 PM. Pinks, oranges reflected off the water, silhouettes of shoreline pines. Music on, drinks in hand. This is the moment they'll photograph and remember.

8:15 PM
Pull the Boat
Head home. Dinner at home or grab takeout. After a full day on the water, nobody wants to get dressed up.
Pro Tip
Stock the cooler with local NC beers: Olde Mecklenburg, Sycamore, NoDa Brewing. Curate a relaxed playlist. If you have a drone, Lake Norman from above is spectacular.
Day 3 · Monday
Catawba Falls
Free, no reservation needed. Multi-tiered cascades along the headwaters of the Catawba River, 580 hand-built stairs, a 60-foot observation tower, and a 3.6-mile loop through Pisgah National Forest. Monday means the trails are yours.
8:45 AM
Depart for Catawba Falls
~1 hour 35 min drive via I-85 S to I-40 E, Exit 73 (Old Fort). The last stretch on Catawba River Road is a quiet 3-mile road to the trailhead. No rush after yesterday's boat day.
10:15 – 10:45 AM
River Trail to Lower Falls
Follow the headwaters of the Catawba River through shady hardwood forest. Pass stone foundation ruins from a 1920s hydroelectric dam. After about a mile, arrive at the base: a 100-foot multi-tiered cascade spilling over moss-covered rock.

10:45 – 11:30 AM
Climb to Upper Falls
580 stairs through three overlooks and a 60-foot observation tower. The climb is equivalent to a 30-story building, but the landings and views make it manageable. At the top: an 80-foot waterfall dropping into a pool surrounded by forest.
11:30 AM – 12:15 PM
Ridge Trail Return
Instead of going back down the stairs, take the Catawba Falls Ridge Trail for a 2.1-mile loop. The route rolls along the ridgeline with mountain views on both sides. Total loop: ~3.6 miles.
12:45 – 1:30 PM
Lunch
Grab something in Old Fort or Black Mountain (charming mountain town, ~15 min west on I-40). Black Mountain has great cafes and is worth a quick stop.
Pro Tip
Bring water and trail shoes. The 580 stairs are real exercise. Cell service is limited at the trailhead. Download the AllTrails map offline before you go.
Premium Upgrade: Chimney Rock
If you want the single biggest scenic payoff and are willing to leave by 7:30 AM: Chimney Rock has a 404-foot waterfall, an elevator inside the mountain, and 75-mile panoramic views. $17/person, timed-entry reservation required at chimneyrockpark.com.
Day 4 · Tuesday
Brunch + Goodbye
Light activity before afternoon departure. No early alarm needed.
9:30 AM
Drive to South End
Charlotte's trendiest neighborhood, ~30 min from Mooresville. Murals, breweries, boutiques, coffee shops.
10:00 – 11:30 AM
Brunch
Tupelo Honey for Southern classics (shrimp & grits, biscuits, fried green tomatoes) or Optimist Hall, a gorgeous food hall in a converted textile mill. Multiple vendors, great coffee, beautiful architecture.

11:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Walk the Rail Trail
3.5-mile greenway through South End. Murals, breweries, boutiques. Easy stroll, good conversation, feels very Charlotte.
1:00 PM
Head to the Airport
Or wherever your friend needs to be for their afternoon departure.
Alternative: Whitewater Center
If your friend is outdoorsy and still has energy, the U.S. National Whitewater Center has whitewater rafting, rock climbing, mountain biking, and zip lines. 35 min from Mooresville. Even just walking the grounds is impressive. $6 parking.
Weather
Peak spring. Warm, not humid yet.
Dogwoods blooming, green everywhere. Sunset at ~8:05 PM all weekend. A California visitor will notice the lush green immediately.
